bonobo: A slightly smaller cousin of the common chimpanzee, it is much less well known. Its range is restricted to a portion of Zaire, and has an estimated population of less than 20,000. Its behavior differs in many interesting ways from that of Pan troglodytes, and may be more similar to that of humans.
