(Soil and Water Conservation District) — A legal subdivision of a state government, with an elected governing body, which develops and implements soil and water conservation programs within a certain area, usually coinciding with county lines. The nearly 3,000 districts in the United States have varying names: soil conservation district, soil and water conservation district, natural resources district, resource conservation district, resources district, or conservation district.
