(FAO): A UN organization, founded in 1945, that collects and disseminates information about world agriculture. FAO also provides technical assistance to developing countries in agricultural production and distribution, food processing, nutrition, fisheries, and forestry. The FAO’s Global Information Early Warning System (GIEWS) monitors for famine conditions in regions of risk.
