Mississippian: A cultural period of the southeastern North American Aborigine Indians dating from 1,300 to 400 B.P. This culture shows strong Mexican influences and is assocated with many groups ancestral to the historic Muskhogean speaking tribes of the Southeast. Note that this cultural period does not relate to Northeastern Central or Western North American Aborigine Indians.
