Bar coal cutter

A coal cutter in which the cutting member was a projecting rotating bar armed with picks throughout its length. The bar cut a kerf in the seam as the machine traveled along the face. The first patent for a bar machine was taken out in 1856. The cutter is now obsolete. Nelson
